Press Release Body = On November 13th, 2005, Kristin Abraham, and Alfonso Llamas left their lives in Florida for on a yearlong journey across America to connect the country through art with The Nomadic Project.
The Nomadic Project is a unique conceptual art project, developed by the marriage of two artists with different forms of expression. Abraham is recording her experiences through painting, while Llamas creates a visual and musical record featuring still and action photography, and original music.
"We aren't expecting to be understood everywhere we go. If that were the case, this would be a very boring year! Regardless of how we are received, every experience adds another dimension to our work." Llamas shares.
A significant part of the project involves Abraham's paintings. As she creates a piece in one state, she leaves it at a gallery in the next state. "By taking an inspiration from one state and placing it in its neighboring state, borders are blurred, and ideals shared. The connection is much like a pencil smudge," explains Abraham.
Abraham works in acrylic paint due to the fast drying rate and convenient cleanup. She describes her artistic style as symbolic realism. Each piece in the "Nomadic" series will be for sale at participating galleries.
Llamas will be creating the soundtrack and video documentary for the exhibit. Believing that music stimulates the subconscious, Llamas is convinced that composing audio to coincide with the visual will inspire a deeper connection for viewers.
Another important aspect of the journey is the involvement of the people in which they come in contact with. Since the exhibit is a four dimensional experience for participants, this input from the community will be a vital part of the 2007 exhibit.
Upon completion of the journey, the traveling exhibit will visit each state, beginning in Florida and following the route of the trip. The Nomadic Project exhibit will feature all the aspects of the journey, including sketches, photographs and their mode of transportation.
